yOUR VOICE to Understanding the Issues

My pledge to you was, and will continue to be the most transparent political official ever.

In the past, I have used Facebook Groups like yOUR VOICE in the Jordan School Board page (we have now grown to a membership of about 3,500 members). We share ideas and look at different view points on the topics being discussed by or should be discussed by the board.

My opponent wants to stay in the 19th Century factory line education model. He does not understand that what worked in education in the past will not work in the future. We need to prepare our children for 21st century jobs. Our children will work in jobs not even created yet. I have a Doctoral Degree in Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences. I have researched for over a decade, innovative schools of the 21st century. I know the value of Personalized Learning. Every Child does not learn the same way. We need Choice in Education.

HAPPY 2,000th Followers

On October 23, 2013 nearly 7 years ago, yOUR VOICE on the Jordan School Board Facebook Page was created. I was one of the first to join this group. This page was originally created to oppose the half of Billion Dollar Jordan School Board Bond of 2013. After the failed Bond, Members of the group gathered together and wanted to make a difference. We wanted to provide an “Open Mic” to anyone who had a question about the Jordan School District.

The name was changed to “Understanding the Jordan School District.”
Control of the page was turned over to me, and we went to work, trying to understand the issues facing the district and the school board. This page has ALWAYS been open for people to ask questions and share concerns. We have debated tough issues and tried to understand the complexity of the decisions our schools make.

Almost 4 years ago, I decided to run to become a member of The Jordan School Board. When I was elected, the name of the group changed to “YOUR VOICE on the Jordan School Board” A slight change was made two years later to “yOUR VOICE on the Jordan School Board”

yOUR? It really is not YOUR VOICE, it is OUR VOICE. WE want to hear your voice, but the voice we become on the page is really OURs. Thus, yOUR is a reminder WE are in this together.

I do not know any other page that is this open to about OUR schools. I do not know any other politician that is this open with their thoughts and feelings about the decisions they have to make. I wanted to invite you, to join with me as I show YOU just how hard some of these decisions are.

Certainly, you have not agreed with every decision I have made.

There is not a lot of politicians that get elected with 100% support.

I hope however you feel listened to, and at least you feel there is transparency in the decisions I have made. I spend a lot of time letting you know not only how I voted, but why.

Although I represent District 1 West Riverton and Herriman, I have helped patrons throughout our district. Many people are surprised to find out, I am not their board member.

I love and respect other members of our board, and other boards, who choose to communicate with patrons differently. I thank them for their patience in allowing me to be so vocal.

It is a risk to be so vocal, but I have always wanted a politician that was this transparent.

This site will continue as long as I am a member of the Jordan School Board. I want to invite you to join us in a discussion critical issues.
